The Learning Tea: July Updates

We rounded out the summer with our monthly Taste of India Dinner on July 27th! Thank you all so much for coming out on Monday night despite the rain! We were overwhelmed by your enthusiasm and support. We had a full house and it was so great to see many familiar and a few new faces in the group. Our cozy dinner was off to a great start from the get-go!

The Learning Tea updates included new information about our scholars from some members of our team who were visiting them in Darjeeling this past month. First, the team landed in Kolkata after three flights, four tuk-tuk rides, and an adventurous walk down a narrow flooded street while hoisting their luggage above their heads to keep it dry.

Their next stop was to visit New Light. This organization provides comprehensive community development services by preparing safe havens for the children of sex workers in the city. They began their program in 2000 with only 9 students. Today they have grown and they are currently supporting 250 students of various ages. The Learning Tea met with them to explore the possibility of a future partnership where New Light would recommend any eligible young women to our program. We couldn't be more excited about this and we look forward to working with them more in depth in the future.

The team returned to Atlanta this week and they will be sharing more updates on our scholars, the Learning Tea Life Scholarship program, and their work in India in the weeks to come so stay tuned!

Thank you all so much for joining us! If you weren't able to make the dinner this month we hope to see you for our next dinner - August 31st !

See you soon!
